"Don
Yute" aka Jason Williams Shot in Atlanta, GA.
DJ Don Yute was shot in the chest when he went to visit a friend in Atlanta,
Georgia the week of March 6, 2000. It is reported that Don Yute arrived
at the home of an associate and upon entering the premises, a masked man
reportedly jumped him and pulled him into the home. Don Yute thought that
it was his friends joking around but upon seeing his friend's faces realized
the masked man was for real. The masked man, before leaving, pumped a bullet
into Don Yute's chest. He was rushed to Grady Memorial where doctors were
astonished. The report was the bullet passed straight through the DJ's
chest without damaging any organs. The bullet only grazed his lungs. DJs
from the music fraternity flew down to his beside to give their support.
Don Yute is reportedly doing fine and is able to go home but he is staying
in the hospital for a couple of days to make sure everything is fine with
him. Infiniti Movement Crew say a prayer for you "Our Father, Who Art in
Heaven ....."
Ninja Man Beaten Up By Warders. Desmond Ballentine, "aka" Ninja Man was hospitalized earlier this week 3/6/00 after prison warders allegedly inflict a whole heap a lick on the Don Gorgon. The injuries occurred when Ninja tried to defend his cell-mate from being beaten by the Warders. The warders told Ninja to move out of the way so they can take care of business but Ninja stayed put. This
is when the warders start put on some lick on Ninja Man with the baton.
Ninja said they broke his left shoulder again - an injury that had never
fully healed stemming from from 2 motor vehicle accidents in 1998. One
of the accidents was when Ninja Man was being taken in a prison van that
crashed and turned over. What does it take to kill a Ninja? God. Ninja
Man is a survivor and I believe he will survive this attack. Ninja Man's
sister said they will be seeking justice for the assault and a lawsuit.
Matterhorn & King Addies at it Again For Biltmore Reunion. What is being said as the best dance of the year was held at the Biltmore Ballroom "aka" Warehouse in Brooklyn 3/10/00. King Addies promoted this dance and the massives came out early. The dance started about 10:30 p.m. that saw Winterfresh and Neil Diamond drawing some classics on dub and 45's. Some artistes that we heard from was Dennis Brown, Half Pint, Nitty Gritty, Garnett Silk and host of memorable tunes, that made you want the days when Biltmore was Biltmore. Babyface arrived at the dance some time past 12:00am and he and Winterfresh ripped the place up with some new rhythms some I recall from the most recent dance in El Mantra in the Bronx the week before. The place mash up when Tony Matterhorn said "Babyface is the wickedest dub cutting selector but none a dem 'fassy' deh nuh bad like me." He then drew some wicked selections after which he took a commercial and step upon King Addies when he once again to teamed up with Baby 'Bad Rasta' Face. Their timing was good and it was as if Matterhorn had not left King Addies. I think if they were still sparring, King Addies and Matterhorn would be unstoppable. Bounty Killer was in the house to do his performance. The first artist to come on was Plucka Ranks who gave an impressive and full of stage performance. Conroy Smith did "Dangerous" then he left and made way for Sean Paul. Sean Paul had the crowd going in the first 10 minutes of his performance but wasn't able to maintain it. The lights were turned down which kinda made the people wonder what's going on but soon after the Killer was introduced and Biltmore mash up when they heard Bounty's voice and upon his appearance. Bounty's set was spectacular. He joked with the crowd who was enjoying his set. He touched old, new, did acapella and made some big talk. Veterans in Biltmore were heard saying they never seen Bounty performed like this before. They were saying probably "him a go dead" why he performed this good. Well people, you couldn't ask for a better dance. This is what dancehall should be. Enjoyment! Rodigan Spanks Mighty Crown In Connecticut. Gentleman Rudeboy David Rodigan put a chink in the world champion Mighty Crown this past Saturday 3/18/00. The venue, West Indian Social Club, was ram from as early as 8:00pm. Most of the "celebrity" people had to be escorted through a club adjacent to the venue. Rodigan took no prisioners as he started off wicked. He lost momentum in the first round which allowed Mighty Crown to rally the crowd into the second round. It seemed like the world champion were on their way to victory when Rodigan pulled a dubplate which featured Grammy winners Santana and Wyclef. My sources informed me Mighty Crown was trying to improvise but had nothing to counteract the "Rudebwoy" from England who was seen jumping in the air hyping the tune. They meet again in New York, April 21,000 at Amazura. Amazura
Can't Hold Capleton. The "prophet" Capleton
proved once again this past Saturday 3/19/00, why he is the hottest thing
in dancehall today. Amazura was packed, that people had to be turned away.
Like it or not, Capleton has the biggest pull in the dancehall fraternity
right now. Not bad for an artist that came along in the early '90s with
hits like 'Bumbo Red', 'Buggering', and the tune that start the rasta revolution
'Tour'. We saw artistes like Buju Banton, Terror Fabulous, Terry Ganzie
to name a few converting to the rasta religion. Capleton saw a resurgence
in his career in 1998 and hasn't looked back. The millennium is on hand
Capleton will surely keep the fire burning.
Welcome! Welcome Bounty Killer. On Saturday the 5th of February 2000, Bounty Killer performed at Act III Night Club in the Bronx and then hung out for
the weekend in the States. On Monday, February 5, 2000, Bounty visited
Don One's studio. It’s been 6 years since Bounty’s been inside this studio.
But what made this a historic night was the announcement over the radio
that whoever wanted dubs from Bounty Killer should be at Don One tonight.
At 7:00 pm, you name it and you found selectors, operators and sound owners
including Addies, Tony Matterhorn and DJ Roy to name a few, waiting for
the arrival of Bounty Killer. As Bounty arrived at the studio he received
a standing ovation from his fans. For Don One it was like a blessing as
he "bathed" from studio time. Don One at one point got vex after Bounty
began deejaying and the fans began turning the studio into a dancehall
scene. Bounty worked until about 1:00 a.m. until he called it quits and
there were still whole lot of sound owners in line.

Beenie
Man's New Album "Art and Life".
"Art & Life", the latest album from Beenie Man and for Virgin Records,
is set to be released May 9, 2000. The album features artistes like
Mya, Red Man, Tonto Metro & Devonte, Wyclef & Red Hot Chilly Peppers.
Yes, you read right. Red Hot Chilly Peppers. I haven't heard any cuts from
the album but people say it has some really good songs. I criticize Beenie
Man not on a regular and not because I don't like him, but because he seems
to jump into everything just to make a dollar. Sometimes you can make a
dollar go. For example? Papa San, Junior Tucker, Carlene Davis and a few
other artistes have professed their faith and given up the dancehall to
pursue gospel songs on a regular. Who was there to jump on the band wagon?
Beenie Man. I still can't figure out why he made "Gospel Time". Lyrics
like "Shake dat booty dat Jesus gave you" makes me wonder if he would sell
his soul for a dollar? Anyway, I will not digress. The album features some
really good tunes, crossovers as we say, which is expected. The album also
features a Latin song 'The Tumble"-- trying to appeal to the masses again
-- nothing wrong with that. He did "Girls Dem Sugar" with Mya which had
a different drop to it. There is about several good hardcore reggae tunes
on the album. Listen out for the album in May 2000. |
